For me, EOS-503 started as a classroom assignment building on the efforts of multiple previous teams to create an educational game focused on theories of learning. I moved further than the classroom and continued working on the project when I started collaborating with Pyrebug Studios to create a prototype. I leveraged this prototype to secure funding from the Two Summers Program at the University of Connecticut to expand the team and create a full playable game.
I act as the Game Director of EOS-503, overseeing the work done by the talented team from Pyrebug across all aspects of the game and set weekly and longer-term goals for our design and work-flow. I have also operated as the Lead Mechanics Designer deciding on the core gameplay mechanics, and working with the team to balance and implement them in ways that are fun and educational. Finally, I also act as a Co-Writer, outlining the entire narrative structure of the game, and writing realistic non-academic dialogue integrating educational psychology.
We have released the initial version of EOS-503 on Steam and through our website for free, as I prefer when possible that educational games I design are of no cost to users, but generate profit through data collection and analysis, charging schools/school districts, and other methods. In this initial version we finished the first Act of EOS-503 and we are currently finishing the writing for the second Act before release, expanding on the narrative, and introducing totally new core gameplay mechanics that build on the actions of the first Act.
